About BRIPPA

Our Mission

BRIPPA as the only organisation in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland made up solely of medical pathologists who work in the fields of Paediatric Surgical and Perinatal Pathology. BRIPPA is therefore ideally placed to provide expert advice and comment on issues affecting the provision of pathology services in these specialised areas and to work with government and other agencies to maintain and improve these important services.

BRIPPA is available for consultation on matters relevant to the delivery of Paediatric and Perinatal Pathology in Great Britain and the Republic of Ireland.

Our Vision

Our mission is to support paediatric and perinatal pathology practice in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland through:

  • Representing Paediatric and Perinatal Pathology in dealings with government, the Medical Royal Colleges and other organisations
  • Working with the wider health service (NHS in the United Kingdom, Health Boards in RoI) to maintain and improve the availability of paediatric and perinatal pathology services
  • Providing educational activities for trainee pathologists in the Paediatric and Perinatal Pathology specialty
  • Providing a forum for pathologists in the specialty to disseminate information on, and discuss current issues relating to the specialty
  • Managing the national External Quality Assurance (EQA) slide review scheme for paediatric and perinatal pathology

About EQA

BRIPPA manages the External Quality Assurance (EQA) slide review scheme for Paediatric and Perinatal Pathology. The EQA is overseen by the National Quality Assurance Advisory Panel (NQAAP) and the Royal College of Pathologists' Histopathology and Cytopathology Interpretative EQA Steering Committee. Participation in the scheme is a requirement for all pathologists practising in these areas in the UK and RoI as a benchmark for maintaining a safe level of knowledge.
BRIPPA hosts the annual EQA review meeting at its Annual General Meeting.
